Falsterbo Horse Show, Southern Sweden

The Falsterbo Horse Show exhibits the world’s top horses and riders in beautiful surroundings in the south of Sweden. An annual event that brings over 65,000 visitors.

Falsterbo is very close to Copenhagen, Denmark and just an hour away or a 35-minute drive by car from Malmo, Sweden.  Malmo is the closest biggest town with suitable hotel accommodation and ideal as a base to visit the show.  There is public transport to the event from Malmo but I would recommend hiring a car to travel to the horse show if you are visiting for a few days.

Something you don’t see at Australian horse shows is a car park full of push bikes.

Falsterbo is one of Sweden’s largest international sports events, and is now an annual event held every July.  The show has also increased further in the competition and the event has just grown bigger and bigger, with new stands and facilities, one of the best outdoor show grounds in the world.

The venue is one of the few venues in Europe that can use CHIO, Concours Hippique International Official, at the competition. The show can run national competitions as well and the program also includes National Jumping, Derby, Grand Prix and Scandinavian Open, as well as the 7-year championship.

Falsterbo Horse Show is so much more with a laid-back feel. During the week exhibitions take place as well as a Family Day and even dogs and rabbits may show off their skills in jumping. Although the rabbit finals take place on the big grass field on their own “racing track”.

The area of Falsterbo has hosted equestrian games since 1920. In 1969 the first Swedish Derby was organized in show jumping, which became the beginning of the Equestrian Games at Falsterbo Horse Show.

Longines now plays an important role at Falsterbo Horse Show.  It is a great chance for Swedish horses and riders to compete on an international standard at home. As a nation, they also get the opportunity to invite international riders and horses to compete, as they get invited by other nations to their shows.

If you happen to be in Denmark or Sweden it is well worth a visit, and the show is run over a week.  Later in the week the more important classes with the Grand Prix of the Show jumping and Dressage are held.  Tickets can be arranged through the website and you will find all the relevant information.
