What level of riding experience do I need?

Every horse riding holiday has different requirements. Some are suitable for beginners, while others require experienced riders who are confident at walk, trot and canter over varied terrain.
If you’re unsure of your riding level, Snaffle Travel can help assess your experience and recommend the most suitable riding holiday for you.

What if I overstate my riding ability?

For your safety, the welfare of the horses and the enjoyment of other guests, it’s important to accurately describe your riding experience. Riding centres may restrict activities or refuse participation if your ability does not match the information provided.

Is travel insurance compulsory?

Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is compulsory for all Snaffle Travel riding holidays. Your policy should include cover for horse riding activities, overseas medical expenses and any pre-existing medical conditions. Some insurers exclude activities such as jumping, polo, hunting or multi-day riding safaris, so always check your policy carefully. We can help with travel insurance if required.

Can I travel alone?

Absolutely. Many of our guests travel solo on our horse riding holidays. Riding holidays are a fantastic way to meet like-minded horse lovers from around the world, and many destinations are particularly popular with solo travellers.

What if I have dietary requirements or a medical condition?

Please advise us at the time of booking. We will pass relevant information on to the riding centre or accommodation provider, however we cannot guarantee all requests can be accommodated.

Do I need my own riding helmet?

Yes. We strongly recommend bringing your own correctly fitted, safety-approved riding helmet. We do not recommend borrowing helmets overseas, and some travel insurance policies may require riders to wear approved safety helmets to Australian standards.

What is included in a riding holiday?

Inclusions vary by destination and may include accommodation, meals, guided riding, riding lessons, transfers, sightseeing and other activities. Full details are provided on each riding holiday itinerary.

Can you recommend the right riding holiday for me?

Yes. One of our key services is matching riders with the most suitable horse riding holiday based on their riding ability, interests, preferred riding style and budget.

Can non-riders join a riding holiday?

Many of our riding holidays welcome non-riding companions. Depending on the destination, non-riders may enjoy sightseeing, golf, cycling, wine tasting, walking or simply relaxing at the property.  Not all equestrian holidays are suitable for non-riders, so please contact us for advice.

I’m over 60. Am I too old for a riding holiday?

Not at all. Many of our guests are aged 50, 60, 70 and beyond. Fitness, health and riding ability are far more important than age.  Whether you’re looking for a relaxing trail ride, dressage holiday, riding lessons or an adventurous riding safari, we can help find the right holiday for you.

Are there weight limits?

Yes. Weight limits are in place for the welfare and comfort of the horses. Limits vary between riding holidays and depend on the horses, terrain and riding hours.
If you are close to or above a published limit, please contact us before booking. Some destinations may be able to accommodate experienced riders on suitable horses. We can also let you know what rides have no weight restrictions or allow heavier riders.

What should I pack?

Once your riding holiday is confirmed, Snaffle Travel will provide a detailed pre-departure guide, including a packing list, destination information, visa requirements, currency, weather and travel tips. We also use the Trip Plans App itinerary which is convenient for travel.

How much should I tip?

Tipping is customary on many horse riding holidays, particularly for guides, grooms and support staff. Customs vary by destination. Before departure, we will provide guidance on local tipping practices and suggested amounts.

Can Snaffle Travel book my flights and other travel arrangements?

Yes. Snaffle Travel is a full-service travel agency and a member of ATIA.  We can arrange flights, accommodation, stopovers, transfers, travel insurance and other travel services to complement your riding holiday. Having all your travel arrangements in one place makes your trip easier to manage and allows us to assist if travel plans change.
