The Calgary Stampede is held for 10 days and nights every July, Calgary puts on its white hat and welcomes the world. “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, is the most authentic, memorable western experience you could ever pack into a single trip. You’ll become a cowboy or cowgirl, witnessing the world’s top rodeo, thrilling chuckwagon races, First Nation culture, Agriculture showcase, live music, and much more. And because Calgary is located only one hour from Canada’s majestic Rocky Mountains, the Stampede is the perfect place to start a true western holiday. Dust off your cowboy boots and put on your cowboy hat for an experience that is unrivaled for variety and excitement.
As the official kick-off to the Calgary Stampede, the annual Stampede Parade is a Calgary tradition. The two-and-a-half-mile parade features beautiful floats, bands, horses, celebrities, and cultural performances.
There’s endless entertainment at no extra cost. Acrobats, active dogs, art shows, agricultural barns, and more are included in your park admission.
The Stampede is a volunteer-supported, not-for-profit community organisation. With the core purpose to preserve and celebrate Western heritage, culture, and community spirit.
Calgary’s national and international identity is tied to the event. It is known as the “Stampede City”, and carries the informal nickname of “Cowtown” and the local Canadian Football League team is called the Stampeders. The city takes on a party atmosphere during Stampede. Office buildings and storefronts are painted in cowboy themes, residents don western wear and events held across the city include hundreds of pancake breakfasts and barbecues.
